The Blues Kitchen late bar camden

The Blues Kitchen has a reputation for stocking not only one of the finest but one of the largest selections of Bourbons and Rye Whiskeys in London.

Rye whiskey was widely prevalent before prohibition took hold of America, for it was a hardy grain that could be grown without too much difficulty. The main difference from Bourbon is the mash bill. The mash bill is the list of grains used for distillation. In America, rye whiskey is distilled from a minimum of 51% rye alongside barley, wheat and corn. Rye is the raw ingredient that proffers the unique flavour profile; a savoury spiciness.

Rye whiskey was the original cocktail spirit when the first manhattans were stirred in pre-prohibition era America. Canadian whiskey is often referred to as rye whiskey, though the mash bill need not contain any rye for it to be Canadian whiskey. Historically, Canadian whiskey was largely based on rye, though lawfully in Canada, whiskeys may be referred to as ‘Canadian Whiskey’ or ‘Canadian Rye Whiskey’ regardless of the rye content.

With over 20 rye whiskies in stock at The Blues Kitchen, we offer a fantastic introduction to the wide range of American whiskeys that include Bourbon, Corn, Tennessee and of course Rye.
